Track Name: Herculean Tasks
Herculean Tasks

Styrofoam gravesites can talk
Monuments to faces I never saw
Learning the language between the lines
Crowding all the tombstones next to mine

Herculean tasks, after all our masks
Aren’t coming with us

Naked as baptism or birth
Purgatory sure does look like Earth
Skeletons of the people I knew
Go about their lives, what they always do

Herculean tasks, after all our masks
Aren’t coming with us
Herculean tasks have all your questions been asked
And will it kill you to not know?
Track Name: I'll Take A Page
I’ll Take A Page

There’s too many commas when you talk
You act like pain’s the only prey you ever stalk
Your wishes are laid out like a corpse in chalk

You constructed my crown of thorns out of compliments
And all the same I don’t expect you to repent
So young and already so fraudulent

It’s okay, I’ll take a page from you and
Disappear

The genius between your legs makes all the choices for your brain
The others come and go and leave much deeper stains
No one’s told you, your body’s not to blame

Check your reflection, you’ll see two eyeballs in the glass
Don’t they look tired, I bet you need a mask
To face all the actors from your past

It’s okay, I’ll take a page from you and disappear
Track Name: F Word
F Word

He was prone to seein’ the world
Through a brown glass bottle lens
When he put it to his lips
The blindness saw no end

He promised me he’d stop
But he never had control
And headstones do no justice
Not for that kind of hole

But better places await us

His ghost sometimes haunts me
On occasion I see his face
And the sins of every father
Always arrive at the same place

I’ll never get used to seeing him
Engraved with an epitaph
And headstones do no justice
Without a photograph

But Dad, you pass right through me

And now the curtain falls
Until our next hello
Track Name: All Dead Flowers
All Dead Flowers

I’ve been licking my wounds
And I can’t say I like the taste
But every broken clock is correct twice a day
And I am always so grateful
That the witnesses can’t see
The ugliness that the mirror reflects to me

It’s all dead flowers
On a fresh gravesite

I know I should have
A better answer for you than a shrug
But lately the stars feel like interrogation lamps
And I need to pull the plug
I’ve convinced myself that my feet deserve
The pavement of Chicago streets
I wonder how I can stand all this in a city with so many seats

It’s all dead flowers
On a fresh gravesite

I may eat my words, but I don’t have to swallow
I might drown in sweat that tastes like its hollow
Track Name: Halo Or Horns
Halo Or Horns

I never thought of us as predator and prey
But if our bodies are mostly water, we’re all islands anyway
Some things are too good to be true
And you start to feel guilty that they happened to you

When you draw your self-portrait in bed
What’s depicted at the top of your head
Is it a halo or horns?

Saw you drawing maps in blood on your white evening gowns
And at every ball you wear them proud like crowns
I’ve seen you flirting with the buzzards circling your frame
They might be hungry and wild but I’m happy and tame

And I cringe when I see the culprit
Is that your secrets are keeping you
Track Name: Cages
Cages

When coffee is your substitute for sunshine
You’ll need help to lift your sleepless head
Every clock is in another language
If the living can’t tell time, then how can the dead?

I’ve given up answering the door
And I can only stand to see my silhouette
I have stacked catalogued and numbered
My entire library of regrets

All my pets I’ve kept in cages
All my desires I’ve trapped in beds
Though you haven’t heard my voice in ages
I beg you please forgive my debt

The time it took our youthful skin
And we got refunded with wrinkles
Ones I love on loan from a memory bank
When they disappear I know I’ll feel a tingle
Track Name: The Camera Adds Ten Pounds
The Camera Adds Ten Pounds

They want to burn you at the stake
But they’ll have to make a ghost out of me too
Bottle all your breast milk for a keepsake
Sign your name on every portrait you drew

And add a million eyes
Though you commit no crimes
They’ll catch the worst of it on film

And the camera adds ten pounds
When your feet rest on crumbling ground

Take a census of all you’d sacrifice
I can shield you from the flames but not the flashbulbs
It seems we’ll have to earn our paradise
I promise we’ll call it home before we’re skulls

And add a million eyes
Though you commit no crimes
They’ll catch the worst of it on film

And the camera adds ten pounds
When your feet rest on crumbling ground

The sunset paints your face red
We’re the opposite of dead
Track Name: Survivor's Guilt
Survivor’s Guilt

If there are any hatchets left in the trees
Let’s pull ‘em out and bury ‘em between our knees
Even though when it comes to fights, you and I have a fortune
I sold all my grandma’s jewelry to pay for your abortion

Now I’ve got survivor’s guilt

I need to symbolize a change so I get a tattoo
I choose a cross and anchor instead of a picture of you
When dolls made out of rags are so in fashion
The cloth will cut and sew itself with perverse passion

Now I’ve got survivor’s guilt
From tearing down what we built

You burn yourself with cigarettes and claim you’re practicing for hell
I let you put one out on me and imagine the hands you’ve been dealt
But that don’t mean you get to use those hands to bruise my eyes
Neither one of us will stay clean until we are covered in flies
Track Name: Miles On The Map
Miles On The Map

Cellar doors collected
In the whites of your eyes and teeth
California treats you cold
Even when the sand burns your feet

And if your guts are having doubts
Then your body should follow suit
Treasure your detachment from him
Our separation is only in terms of
The miles on the map

The sunlight scans your solitude
My lips get cracked and freeze without a kiss
The palm trees on your postcard
Only make me envious

And if your lips are having doubts
Then your skin should follow suit
Treasure your detachment from him
Our separation is only in terms of
The miles on the map

The airport lights are blinding
Odd for such a hopeful place
Flesh and voice replace word and page
For once our eyes will match our typeface
Track Name: Hell To You
Hell To You

Every pause is pregnant between us
And you never bothered to explain the blood on my hands
We sit and we breathe and we thrust
While blindfolded skeletons just carve out their names on my wall

Unwritten laws are the hardest to abide
But I memorize them and try
And hell to you

So you paint faces all over your door
And the dust just settles and freezes each one of your fingers
Yeah, Death’s robe hangs in your closet and you tell me it’s yours
You’re always peeking through keyholes and you never ever like what you see

Unwritten laws are the hardest to abide
But I memorize them and try
And hell to you
Hell to you
Hell to you is everything we learned
You and I will get what we deserve
